old-age: Mrs. Parkington

Mrs. Parkington

Eightyish widow Mrs Parkington (Greer Garson) gathers her children together to try to get her son-in-law out of trouble. As her brood squabble she looks back on her life, from her beginnings as a hotel maid in frontier Nevada where she was swept off her feet by oil-man and financier Augustus Parkington.

The makeup

Jack Dawn was responsible for Greer Garson’s old-age makeup.

Unusually for this genre Greer Garson (who won an Oscar for her performance) spent the majority of the movie in old-age makeup – rather than just being seen aged in the opening and/or closing scenes.
