Old-age makeups: the mid-1990s

This page features various old-age makeups from movies and TV shows of the late 1990s.

The movies

Houdini (1998): Bess (Stacey Edwards) became engaged to Harry Houdini on the day they met: when he died, she spent ten years trying to contact his spirit. Unfortunately, Stacy’s old-age makeup is only seen when she is in a semi-darkened room for a seance. Houdini was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup. The nominees were: Matthew W Mungle (W.M. Creations inc), Special Makeup Artist; Deborah LaMia Denaver, Makeup Department Head; John E Jackson, Prosthetic Makeup Artist.

Merlin (1998): Nimue (Isabella Rossellini) is trapped and grows old in isolation. At the end of the movie Merlin finds her again and with his final bit of magic restores both of them to youth: I’m sorry but the story of Merlin does not have a happy ending. Mark Coulier was special makeup designer and Aileen Seaton makeup artist and designer on this mini-series which also featured interesting makeups on Helena Bonham Carter and Miranda Richardson.
