Walter Mitty has worked in the photo-library of Life magazine for sixteen years and has a tedious routine life. He escapes into a day- dreaming fantasy world many times each day. He has a crush on the recently hired Cheryl Melhoff (Kristen Wiig) but he is too shy to approach her directly.
Then the magazine is taken over, lay-offs loom, and the negative needed for the cover of the final print edition goes missing.
