cosmetic surgery makeups: a step too far

cosmetic surgery: taken too far

In many movies the portrayal of the effect of cosmetic surgery plays a small part – maybe just a single sight gag.

These are examples where a minor character is addicted to cosmetic surgery or has simply taken it a step too far.

The movies

White Chicks (2004): Elaine Vandergeld (Suzy Joachim), a woman perhaps a little too keen on cosmetic surgery, hovers in the background at a Hamptons reception – I suspect there was more intended to be made of her appearance inb scenes that never made it to the screen or the DVD. MastersFX were responsible for her makeup; Rebecca DeHerrera was the makeup department head.

Ella Enchanted (2004): After her mother dies Ella’s thoughtless and greedy father marries Dame Olga (Joanna Lumley), a loathsome woman with two treacherous daughters – sound vaguely familiar yet? In a quick sight-gag at the end of the movie we learn that Dame Olga’s cosmetic surgery did not produce quite the promised results. Sallie Jaye was chief makeup artist; Barrie Gower (BGFX) was the prosthetic makeup artist; Neal Scanlan was responsible for animatronics & special makeup effects.
