disguises: Cybill ‘There Was an Old Woman’

Cybill ‘There Was an Old Woman’

Cybill Sheridan (Cybill Shepherd) is a struggling, middle-aged actress attempting to maintain a career in Hollywood with the help of her hard-drinking best friend, Maryann, while surrounded by her two ex-husbands and her two daughters.

In the episode ‘There Was an Old Woman’ Cybill pitches herself for the role of Mother Superior in a new mini-series. But the director tells her that he is looking for somebody with a little more depth. So when he takes his cat to the vet Cybill turns up disguised as an older woman and attempts to ‘audition’ for the role.

The director recognises Cybill but the vet, who is Maryann’s ex-husband, doesn’t.

In the following episode, ‘Mother’s Day’, Cybill gets to play a different older woman in a TV show, and in a later episode, ‘The Golden Years’, several decades in the future the older Cybill and Maryann reflect on the past.
