In Star Trek: Nemesis Commander Donatra (Dina Meyer) was an officer in the Romulan Guard and commander of the warbird IRW Valdore. She initially joined Commander Suran in supporting Praetor Shinzon’s coup d’etat of the Romulan Senate but when she learned that Shinzon was dying she convinced Suran to oppose his atttack on Earth. The Valdore and another warbird assisted the Enterprise in the battle with Shinzon. Afterwards she and her crew were instrumental in lending aid to the badly-damaged Enterprise.
It’s only a minor part but Comander Donatra bucked the rule that Romulans are shifty and devious. Then again it’s possible that her tipping point was when Shinzon rejected her advances.
Michael Westmore was the makeup designer and supervisor with makeup artists Zoltan Elek, Earl Ellis, Jake Garber, June Westmore & Ellis Burman. IMDb also lists: makeup artists Allan A Apone, Bart Mixon & David DeLeon (uncredited); special makeup effects artists Michael Burnett, Myke Michaels & Art Anthony (uncredited); prosthetic makeup artist Jill Rockow. Jill Rockow was responsible for Dina’s makeup.
Like most recent Romulans – the 2009 reboot excepted – Donatra was stuck with the one-wig-for-all Romulan hairstyle. She also had a distinct – at least on Blu-Ray – difference in complection between her face and her neck.
Dina Meyer was quoted regarding the makeup in an interview:
I had a prosthetic forehead that they stuck to my head. The morning makeup routine consisted of me getting my head wrapped, they make your hair pin-curled and they put your head in a wig cap, so all your hair is pulled off your face. Then you go to the makeup trailer, where they attach the prosthetic ear tips and then they pile on the makeup. When it’s sunny outside and you’re sitting with fourteen layers of slick greasepaint makeup on, it’s not comfortable.
