Star Trek makeups: Subcommander T’Rul

DS9: Subcommander T’Rul

Sisko takes an untested Starfleet warship into the Gamma Quadrant in an attempt to find the Founders of the Dominion and to convince them that the Federation is not a threat.

The Romulans have loaned the Federation a cloaking device for the mission. Subcommander T’Rul (Martha Hackett) is assigned to operate the device and ensure its security. Both the Romulans and the Federation appear to have forgotten that Jim Kirk stole a cloaking device from a Romulan Comander way back in Stardate 2268 – over a hundred years earlier.

Martha Hackett had auditioned for the role of Jadzia Dax on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Although she didn’t get the part she clearly made an impression as she was offered a role in the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation and then the role of Subcommander T’Rul. Then a director called her, saying they wanted her for the role of Seska coming up later that season on the new Trek series Star Trek: Voyager.
