look-alike makeups: Magda Goebbels

Johanna Maria Magdalena Goebbels (1901–1945) was the wife of Joseph Goebbels and effectively acted as First Lady of the Third Reich. She is best known for having murdered six of her children hours after the suicide of Adolf Hitler. Magda Goebbels has been portrayed by, amongst others: Corinna Harfouch, Barbara Jefford, Piper Laurie, Eva Mattes, Hanna Schygulla and Elke Sommer.

Uncle Adolf (2005): this TV movie focuses on Hitler’s private life between 1929 and 1945, and in particular his obsessive relationship with his niece Geli Raubal, which eventually led to the girl’s suicide. It then goes on to tell the story of how Eva Braun, who also attempted suicide, became his wife. Emma Buckley played Magda Goebbels: if anyone can supply an image of Emma as herself, please themakeupgallery. RoseAnn Samuel was the makeup designer: Lesley Noble & Christina Webster were makeup artists.

Der Untergang (Downfall) (2004): this amazing movie tells the story of the Nazi dictator’s final days in his Berlin bunker at the end of WWII as told by his secretary. Corinna Harfouch played a chilling Magda Goebbels. Waldemar Pokromski & Margrit Neufink were the key makeup artists.

Goebbels und Geduldig (2004): Featuring Eva Mattes as Magda Goebbels coming soon …

La Niña de tus ojos (The Girl Of My Dreams) (1998): a company of Spanish movie makers gets into a complicated situation when making a film in Nazi Germany: mostly it works out with a little help from Magda Goebbels (Hanna Schygulla). Gregorio Ros was key makeup artist; Jirí Farkas was makeup artist.

The Bunker (1981): This TV movie depicted the events surrounding Adolf Hitler’s last weeks in and around his underground bunker in Berlin. It featured Anthony Hopkins as Hitler with Piper Laurie as Magda Goebbels and Susan Blakely as Eva Braun. Lon Bentley was responsible for Anthony Hopkins’s makeup and was, I assume, key makeup artist.
