look-alikes: Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza Rice

Condoleezza Rice (born 1954) is best known as President George W Bush’s National Security Advisor from 2001 to 2005 and then his Secretary of State from 2005 until 2009. She was originally a Democrat – working as an intern in the State Department in 1977, during the Carter administration – but gradually became increasingly opposed to President Jimmy Carter’s foreign policy and she changed her political affiliation to Republican in 1982.

Rice was the first black woman (second African American, and the second woman) to serve as Secretary of State. Before joining the Bush administration, she was a professor of political science at Stanford University where she served as Provost from 1993 to 1999.

In March 2009 she returned to Stanford University as a political science professor and the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution. In September 2010 she became a faculty member of the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a director of its Global Center for Business and the Economy.

The movies & TV shows

W. (2008): Oliver Stone’s take on the life of George W Bush, ‘one of the most controversial, secretive, cynical, and ruthless’ of US presidents, chronicling his wild college years, his military service in the safety of the air Air National Guard during the Vietnam War, his career in the oil industry, the governorship of Texas, his campaign for the presidency and his first term in office. Thandie Newton played Condoleezza Rice; she is reported as stating there were no prosthetics employed apart from dentures, but there certainly seems to have been something going on under her chin at least. Trefor Proud was the makeup department head; John R Bayless was the key makeup artist; Matthew Mungle was credited for prosthetic designs; Stevie Bettles was the prosthetic makeup artist.

The Path to 9/11 (2006): This was a television mini-series depicting the events leading up to 9/11. Penny Johnson Jerald reprised the role of Condoleezza Rice, whom she had played in DC 9/11: Time of Crisis. Amanda Terry was the makeup artist.
