racechanging: Chief Crazy Horse

Chief Crazy Horse

Crazy Horse was a war leader of the Oglala Lakota who led a war party to victory at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in June 1876. Four months after surrendering in May 1877, he was fatally wounded by a bayonet-wielding military guard, while allegedly resisting imprisonment at Camp Robinson in present-day Nebraska. He married Black Shawl (Suzan Ball), who outlived him, dying in the 1920s during an influenza epidemic, around 1870.

This movie is supposedly told entirely from the Lakota viewpoint.

Suzan Ball was a cousin of Lucille Ball who featured in a number of movies in the 1950s (including as a Middle-Eastern dancer, a Sumatran dancer, and a Seminole woman).

The makeup

Bud Westmore was the makeup artist.
