As Onoto (Myrna Loy) is about to be sold to a wealthy Mandarin she is rescued from the auction block by Gregory Kent, a white fugitive from justice. She falls in love with him and he with her.
But in 1928 marriage between races is taboo so after much heart-searching Onoto forsakes Kent so that he can marry his white sweetheart.
This was one of Myrna Loy’s many ‘exotic’ roles – including at least five Chinese characters – before she became everybody’s favourite American housewife in The Thin Man.
I have no information on the makeup credits for this movie.
