racechange: Thirteen Women

The movie

Thirteen women who were schoolmates ask a swami for their horoscopes. Little do they realise that Ursula Georgi (Myrna Loy) – a half-breed Asian who also went to their school, but was forced to leave because of their bigotry – is planning to use her hypnotic powers over the swami to exact revenge on them and their families.

This film together with The Mask of Fu Manchu, released in the same year, marked the end of a long succession of ‘exotic’ roles for Myrna Loy; two years later she went on to become everybody’s favourite American housewife in The Thin Man.

The makeup

As with many movies of this period no makeup credits are given.
