Character makeups: Hard lives & hard times

Everybody’s life experience affects their appearance: that is one of the basic assumptions of character makeup. Sometimes it results in visual cliches and, to an extent, they are repeated here– if those beautiful actresses were not made to look downtodden they wouldn't be included here.

But some characters endure particularly hard lives or hard times: peasant women; drug addicts; bag ladies; prostitutes; and inmates in prisons or mental institutions. So here we have a number of actresses definitely not looking their best.
