In ‘Adelina’, unemployed Carmine Sbaratti and his wife Adelina Sbaratti (Sophiia Loren) survive through Adelina selling black market cigarettes on the street. When she is sentenced to prison they learn that a woman cannot be put in prison when she is pregnant and six months after the delivery. Adelina and Carmine start produce child after child until Adelina says enough.
In ‘Anna’, Anna Molteni (Sophia Loren) is the spoiled but neglected wife of a successful businessman whio takes a poor artist as her lover.
In ‘Mara’, Mara (Sophia Loren) is a prostitute who works out of her apartment. A young seminarian, who visits his grandparents in the adjacent apartment, becomes infatuated with Mara. Meanwhile Augusto Rusconi, one of Mara’s regular clients who is in town from Bologna, does whatever he can to get the seminarian out of the way.
