Osnard, an unscrupulous British spy, is banished to the backwater of Panama after having an affair with an ambassador’s mistress. His mission is learn the President’s plans for the Panama Canal.
He recruits a reluctant Harry Pendel, a tailor with a dodgy past and connections to all of the top political and gangster figures in Panama. With Pendel’s assistance Osnard produces a plausible but totally fictional story that creates an international crisis.
In this under-rated dark take on Our Man in Havana Pierce Brosnan gets to play with his James Bond persona. This is definitely not a victimless fraud.
Among the wounded is Pendel’s assistant Marta (Leonor Varela), a former member of the anti-Noriega underground, who already bears the scars from a vicious beating by the secret police of Panama.
Máire O’Sullivan was the key makeup artist and Lyn Johnson was the makeup artist on the movie.
