The Vorta are a humanoid species encountered by the crew of Deep Space 9.
The Vorta were a genetically engineered race created by the Founders of the Dominion to act as field commanders, administrators, scientists and diplomats. Perhaps the most important of the genetic alterations made to the Vorta is an intrinsic belief that the Founders are their Gods – thus ensuring absolute obedience whereby the Vorta define themselves as those who ‘serve the Founders’. Vorta act as the commanders of the Jem’Hadar. Each Jem’Hadar ship is commanded by a single Vorta, to whom the Jem’Hadar First is directly responsible; the other Jem’Hadar are responsible to the First.
Vorta have pale skin, violet eyes, and elongated ears that are completely joined to the rest of the head. Like the Jem’Hadar, Vorta do not reproduce sexually; individual Vorta have achieved a virtual state of immortality through cloning. Unlike the Jem’Hadar, there are both male and female Vorta in service.
Michael Westmore was the makeup designer for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Kilana: In the Deep Space Nine episode ‘The Ship’ a Jem’Hadar warship crashes on Torga IV while an away team is conducting a mineral survey. While the crew are burying the Jem’Hadar and preparing to salvage their warship for investigation they come under attack from a second Jem’Hadar warship commanded by the Vorta Kilana (Kaitlin Hopkins). The away team’s runabout is destroyed, trapping them on the planet. Kilana offers to take them back to Federation territory in exchange for their claim to the warship. The offer is rejected and a stand-off ensues, with neither side trusting the other enough to negotiate.
