period: Ran (乱)

Ran (乱)

Akira Kurosawa’s epic was loosely based on both King Lear and Japanese traditions, with a nod to MacBeth.

Lady Kaede (Mieko Harada / 原田 美枝子) is a Lady MacBeth-type character who urges her husband to seize control of the kingdom (and kill his brothers) after the elderly king divides it between his three sons. It does not end well.

The makeup

Shoshichiro Ueda, Tameyuki Aimi, Chihako Naito, and Noriko Takamizawa were the makeup artists.
