During the late 1960s three friends from Detroit, Effie White (Jennifer Hudson), Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles), and Lorrell Robinson (Anika Noni Rose), form an R&B act called ‘The Dreamettes’. When they enter a local talent contest they are spotted by a ruthless manager who offers them a job as backup singers for headliner James 'Thunder' Early (Eddie Murphy) and they soon discover that he has taken over their lives.
The group is relaunched as ‘The Dreams’ with Effie first demoted from lead to backing singer and then sacked while Deena becomes the lead singer. They become a worldwide success but the women realise that life is not all about fame and fortune.
I’m sure I’ve heard that story somewhere else.
Anyway, along the way Deena takes part in a photoshoot which also looks somewhat familiar.
Shutchai Tym Buacharern was the makeup department head; Judy Murdock was the key makeup artist; Francesca Tolot was the personal makeup artist for Beyoncé Knowles.
